Our Mission — Empowerment Through Clay

At Cone8 Ceramics, we believe everyone has their own way of connecting with clay.

As a women-led ceramics studio, we challenge the idea that working with clay is only about physical strength, control or scale. We celebrate different approaches to making, through sensitivity, intuition, patience, movement and experimentation.

We see ceramics as a dialogue between body, mind and material. By slowing down, listening to the clay and discovering our own rhythms, we create space for self-expression, personal growth and connection.

Through our pottery classes, workshops and creative community in Hackney Wick, East London, we empower people of all backgrounds and experience levels to discover their own relationship with clay.

We believe empowerment begins when everyone is free to find their own way with clay.

Our Vision

We envision a more inclusive and diverse ceramics culture where everyone is free to explore, create and connect through clay. By challenging traditional ideas of strength and creativity, we celebrate the many ways people can engage with the material — nurturing a deeper connection between body, mind and clay, and building a community where every creative voice belongs.

Our Values

01. Inclusivity

We believe clay is for everyone. We welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities and experience levels, celebrating the different perspectives and approaches each person brings to making.

02. Body–Mind Connection

We value the relationship between body, mind and material. Through touch, movement, patience and experimentation, we encourage people to slow down, listen to the clay and discover their own way of working.

03. Empowerment

We believe there is no single way to work with clay. We encourage people to move beyond expectations, build confidence and trust their own instincts, recognising that creativity is not defined by physical strength, scale or technical perfection.

04. Community

We believe creativity grows through connection. By sharing knowledge, experiences and ideas, we nurture a supportive environment where people can learn from one another, feel a sense of belonging and grow together.

05. Curiosity & Experimentation

We embrace the process of discovery. We encourage playful exploration, thoughtful risk-taking and learning through mistakes, seeing each experiment as an opportunity to develop new skills and perspectives.

06. Respect for the Material

We believe clay invites us into a dialogue rather than a battle for control. By respecting its nature, limitations and possibilities, we learn to work with the material and appreciate the unexpected things it can teach us.
